The History

In the past, pizza was the peasant’s meal and it has been going for centuries – after the periods of the ancient Greece and Persia, of course. In 1889, Pizzeria di Pietro was baking pizza for King Umberto and Queen Margherita’s visit. One of the pizzas had the marinara type with basil and mozzarella. It was considered patriotic because it looked like the Italian flag on a plate with the colors of white (from mozarella), red (tomatoes), and green (basil). Queen Margherita loved it so much and the pizza was named after her. So, the answer to where was modern pizza invented is obvious: it is Naples.

The popularity of the round flatbread is increasing when immigrants brought the meal to America.
